The life of a carbon pre-filter isn’t an easy one. After all, you aren’t just responsible for taking out the larger particles in the air, like pet hair, chunky pollen, and the occasional bit of detritus; as a carbon filter, you’re also responsible for trapping and neutralizing odors as well. So, eventually, not only are you clogged with gunk, you also smell like the inside of an NBA locker room, post Game 7 of the Finals. Still, at least you know your life is useful, even if it’s short. You’ll get swapped out for a new filter every three to six months, going on to a better life, recycled and turned into nanofiber.
